The account I'm running is a local admin and I've also looked for different behavior under a different local administrator account. (To be sure, I doubt strongly that removing 2013 will remove the broken 2016 icons.) I've not tried an uninstall/reinstall because, frankly, I'm pissed off this is even a problem.

I've tried the tool that's referenced here to but it can't remove Office 2013 at all. Does Windows 10 come with Microsoft Word and Excel 5,091 Views. I've tried several Repairs on Office 2013 at various times to no avail. Mine is located at C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft OfficerootOffice16 (See A below). I've updated Office and Windows 10 successfully. If I go into the Office15 directory I can launch the executable (which is something I can pin to the taskbar). (Indeed broken 2016 icons appear in searches for Word, Excel, etc., but their 2013 companions appear, too.) Not only does Outlook 2013 not come up in searches but it also doesn't show in the list of applications. What's going on in this last case is that, when you type in "outlook" in the Start menu, a broken icon for Outlook 2016 comes up. Outlook 2013 never appears and the Outlook 2016 icon does nothing. In each case, I removed Office 2016 installations including the little installer stub. I've setup four laptops in the last week (fallout from Harvey). This is one of those Windows 10 issues that drives me nuts, an inexplicable difference among machines setup the same way.
